I hope classes are going well and people are healthy.
TOMORROW 9/17 from 12.05-12.20 we will have our first Virtual Thespian Meeting. It will be a brief one just to say hi and check in. Brigitte and Miranda will share some updates on what the heck the theatre department will look like, and what we might be doing!
Please email Steve at beckings@wlwv.k12.or.us for the Zoom info.
As our live audience theatre experiences have been temporarily halted, I thought it might be nice to “keep the ball in the air” with a WLHS Theatre Podcast. Our 2020/21 Thespian Troupe 1915 co-presidents, Miranda Wiler and Brigitte Chenevert, along with myself, will host episodes containing a variety of content: interviews with theatre practitioners and other Oregon theatre students , improv, radio plays, and general philosophy and hilarity.
It’s happening! We have three plays which will be performed as virtual stage readings. The performance of all three plays will be uploaded at 7pm on MAY 26 on the WLHS ASB YouTube page – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOKnxMQsrroKvgua5NEsV3A

Yes, that’s right, we are going virtual with SHORTS! If you are interested in auditioning, please email Mr. Beckingham (beckings@wlwv.k12.or.us) for the Thespian Troupe 1915 Google Classroom code (you do not need to be an inducted thespian to join the classroom). Any WLHS student is welcome to audition (note, it will be a Zoom conference audition).
The WLHS Theatre Arts Department presents a double bill on stage – A Number by Cary Churchill, and These Shining Lives, by Melanie Marnich. A Number is a compelling meditation on human cloning, personal identity, and the conflicting claims of nature versus nurture. These Shining Lives chronicles the strength and determination of women in the 1920s who worked in a watch factory painting watch faces with glowing, radium-rich paint. The play is based on the true story of the “Radium Girls,” and the toxic and deadly levels of radium poisoning they encountered. Their strength and determination helped shape today’s rules and regulations within the workplace. The plays run March 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14. Curtain is 7pm. Tickets are $8 for students, $10 for adults, and can be purchased at the door or online at www.wlhstheatre.org.
February 24 is national Go Out to Eat and Support a Worthy Cause Day! (why stay home and dirty dishes anyway). McMenamins West Linn would be a great choice!
Have you got a 1st – 6th grade student who needs/wants to get the wiggles out on Feb 17 (President’s Day)? Sign ’em up for Kids Instant Theatre. Members of our Thespian Troupe will introduce your young ones to theatre games, theatre basics, and prepare them for a final devised play performance on the big stage! All are welcome and previous theatre experience is not necessary.
